In Mother’s Shadow
I was working on a project to photograph the elephants of Tsavo. It was the dry season and I spent a lot of time photographing the elephants as they came to drink at this waterhole.
I took this photograph using a remote-control camera buggy. I had remote control over the camera settings and a live video feed from the buggy allowing me to accurately compose my images.
I left my camera completely motionless as the elephants were drinking. The elephants ignored it and on many occasions one would walk directly over it as they moved around the waterhole. This allowed me to photograph this young calf from a unique vantage point!
